People OK with Murdering Assange was created on December 25th, 2010, after a short Internet message exchange between Mike Bell and Alfred MacDonald. Understanding well the dangers facing free speech and the responsibility that comes with it, the site was created as a means to inform the public about the current political climate.

It is atrocious that anyone would call for the murder of a man who has not been shown to have broken any laws, who has not been shown to have directly or indirectly caused harm to any individual, and who strongly supports ideologies that, in the end, will be shown to be for the benefit of all mankind. Worse yet is the current level of awareness distributed throughout the world, especially in the United States. Our media figure-heads (as you will/have read in the site or the list) have even made the most basic mistakes as to suggest Assange is or was a citizen of the United States (because, after all, how can you be a traitor to a country that is not your own? Oh wait, if you don't agree with the US, or if you do something it doesn't like, you're a terrorist)

This is all part of the evolution process. Don't believe in it? It's happening as we speak. Our world, our society is facing a critical moment in time. The ball is about to swing violently into one of these two courts and you know well of which I write. Our collective human integrity is at stake.

The recent tragedy in Arizona may not have been a direct result of incitements to violence, but if anything were to happen to Mr. Assange, we have not only public, documented records of incitements against him, but now, a central, easy-to-access repository of those records and is being updated with the help of the public. That repository is this website.

Myself and Alfred are both of the opinion that incitements to violence and murder are NOT the way media personalities should represent the United States in the World community. I, personally, think Assange and his organization are doing great works for the benefit of mankind. Please do not mistake us for being anti-Wikileaks or anti-Assange.

This website is Pro-Wikileaks, Pro-Assange, and Pro-Open Government. All related pros (free speech, human rights, etc) should be inferred.

I view peopleokwithmurderingassange.com as a necessary step in our connected society. As Steven Pinker has noted in his "on the myth of violence" TED talk, rates of violence have been declining for as long as humanity has been progressing. With technology we can observe a similar trend: technological development strengthens our ability to speak and write and print freely. My hope is that this website will discourage violence and especially violence against those who rightly advocate for greater freedom of the press, as Assange has done.

I want people who view this site to be aware that any variant of "I'm OK with murdering someone to censor them" is wrong to say, and I do mean murder: the US has lots of clever laws of getting away with calling it "murder", but that's what it is. Would we say that Iran has "neutralized" their gays by hanging them? No, absolutely not. Would anyone feel comfortable saying that Kim Jong Il "silenced" dissenters--not "shot them in the head"? No, absolutely not. Should anyone feel okay with the language of those who say that Hitler tried to "solve" his Jewish population? No, absolutely not.

Then why is it okay for those who decide what is "news" to act as if it's okay to say that Assange should be "illegally shot," as Bob Beckel has said? It's not okay, and we shouldn't tolerate it. Just as no self-respecting group of friends would tolerate blatant racism on from a fellow friend on a night out for dinner, no freedom-loving American should tolerate those who advocate outright murder of trailblazers for democracy like Assange. No one who says something like “Assange should be murdered” should be taken seriously; instead, they should be shamed. If someone in your circle of friends says "Assange should be murdered", that person does not have the character to be your friend and you are justified in never speaking to him or her again. You should not associate with such mentally imbalanced people.

So let's not beat around the bush here: if you say something like "Assange's murder is okay", you are a psychopath, you are a moral joke, and you have no business telling anyone what to do. Violent censorship is the most un-American thing you can do short of burning the Constitution, and no American should ever tolerate anyone who advocates it. Hopefully, this website will encourage those who view it to feel the same.
